Moby Agent vs Coinbase for Agents: Which AI Trading Agent Fits You?

Coinbase for Agents connects ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and other AI tools to your Coinbase account, so an agent can trade from a separate portfolio within Coinbase's limits. A Moby Agent trades Solana tokens, paid in USDC, including tokenized stocks, from its own wallet within limits you set. You can keep Coinbase and add Moby for Solana.

The 30-second verdict

Pick Coinbase for Agents if you already keep funds on Coinbase, want OAuth sign-in in ChatGPT or in the Claude app with no API key, want centralized exchange liquidity, or want the asset menu Coinbase offers your account (crypto, and stocks and futures depending on region and account eligibility, per Coinbase).

Pick a Moby Agent if you trade Solana tokens and memecoins, want smart-money data (whale and KOL activity, key holders) and a rug check tool inside the agent, or want tokenized stocks on Solana via DEX. Codex, Claude Code (CLI), Gemini CLI and Grok CLI connect with the agent key. In ChatGPT, paste your personal Moby connector URL from the app.

The honest part: they are built for different jobs and work well side by side. Keep your main app and use Moby as a side agent wallet for Solana. This comparison is dated November 2, 2026. Every Coinbase fact below is taken from Coinbase's own pages and can change, so open those pages before you fund an agent.

How Coinbase for Agents works

On coinbase.com/agents, Coinbase's line is "Connect your AI agent to Coinbase so it can trade your strategy within limits you set." That product is also what people look up as coinbase mcp, coinbase ai, a coinbase ai agent, or coinbase ai trading.

The marketing page names ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Grok, Perplexity, Hermes and Muse. Coinbase says any tool that supports MCP (Model Context Protocol) can connect, and that you can use the Coinbase CLI where MCP is not supported. Tabs there also show ChatGPT and Grok Bot. The docs overview, fetched November 2, 2026, lists ChatGPT, Grok, Grok Bot, Muse, Perplexity Computer, Hermes, Claude, Claude Code and Codex CLI. Cursor is on the marketing page and not in that docs list.

Two ways in, both from those docs. The remote coinbase mcp server is https://agents.coinbase.com/mcp, with Coinbase OAuth and no CDP API key. The local CLI, @coinbase/coinbase-cli, runs on your machine with a CDP API key. Coinbase's docs call the CLI the most reliable setup for executing trades consistently.

On control, Coinbase says "You set the limits, and Coinbase enforces them in a separate portfolio for each agent," that your agent can never send funds off Coinbase, and that you can disconnect any time. The docs recommend a dedicated portfolio funded with only what you are willing to risk. That portfolio stays inside Coinbase.

Crypto, stocks and futures, depending on your region and account eligibility, per Coinbase. Check Coinbase's current list for your account. The marketing FAQ says "Crypto, stocks, and futures, depending on your region and account eligibility, with more assets on the way." The docs that day describe spot crypto, US derivatives (futures), and equities ("trade eligible US stocks"). They also say isolated agent portfolios are spot crypto only, with prediction markets coming soon. The two pages do not match for every account, so use the list Coinbase shows you. Moby Agents do not trade perps and do not use leverage.

Coinbase says there is no extra fee for Coinbase for Agents. "Your agent's trades pay the same standard Coinbase fees as your own." The docs say Advanced Trade fees and eligibility apply. x402 data payments are separate. The marketing FAQ says they are available in the US, capped at $5 each and $50 per day, paid in USDC. The docs describe USDC on Base and a cap of 5 USDC per payment. The daily cap is on the marketing page.

Coinbase's other agent tools

AgentKit and the Coinbase agentic wallet are developer tools, separate from Coinbase for Agents. AgentKit is a toolkit for building onchain agents on EVM networks and Solana. The Agentic Wallet docs describe a CLI and MCP wallet with spending limits and x402, and they say trading is only available on Base mainnet. The name coinbase agentkit is that SDK, a different search from Coinbase for Agents.

How a Moby Agent works

Moby Agents trade Solana tokens, paid in USDC, including tokenized stocks. Liquid tokenized stock examples include NVDAx, AAPLx, SPYx and TSLAx. They are tokenized stocks on Solana, paid in USDC, reached through a DEX. AI Trading on Base, BNB Chain and Robinhood Chain is coming soon. Moby Agents do not trade perps and do not use leverage.

Each user gets one agent, with its own wallet separate from your main in-app wallet. The agent cannot withdraw or send funds. You set your agent's limits on max per trade, daily buy volume and market-cap range from the Moby app, and Moby checks them server-side on every buy your agent makes. Read AI agent guardrails for why a limit has to live on the server, and AI agent security for how keys and tool lists fit around that check. Moby checks the three limits on every buy. The agent has no withdraw or send tool.

Set up a Moby Agent with its own wallet and your spending guardrails, then connect it to the AI you use. Codex, Claude Code (CLI), Gemini CLI and Grok CLI connect with the agent key. In ChatGPT, paste your personal Moby connector URL from the app. The agent key is a Bearer API key through the Moby MCP, at the server published on Moby Agents (https://mcp.moby.win/mcp). Steps: Codex, Claude Code (CLI) and Grok CLI. Gemini CLI uses the same agent key. The key is created in the Moby app. It is not a wallet private key.

Before a buy, the agent can read smart-money data (whale and KOL activity, key holders). See the whale tracking agent. The rug check gives a low, medium or high verdict from Moby risk signals and holder concentration. The wider frame is agentic trading.

As of November 2, 2026. "Not covered here" means this page did not verify that cell. A Coinbase cell is never written as "No" unless Coinbase's own page says so. Coinbase can trade stocks and futures for accounts that are eligible. This table does not say otherwise.

Where Coinbase for Agents is stronger

Coinbase's brand and track record are why many people start here, and Coinbase for Agents stays inside an account they may already use. Coinbase is stronger on OAuth sign-in in ChatGPT: you sign in with your Coinbase account, and the remote MCP needs no API key. Moby works in ChatGPT too. In ChatGPT, paste your personal Moby connector URL from the app. Centralized exchange liquidity and an order book suit listed majors. Coinbase's marketing list also includes Cursor, Perplexity, Hermes, Muse and the CLI. Eligible accounts get the asset menu Coinbase publishes, including stocks and futures where your region and account allow them. Coinbase says the agent cannot send those funds off Coinbase.

Where a Moby Agent is stronger

A Moby Agent is built for Solana tokens and memecoins onchain, inside a market-cap range you set. It can read smart-money data (whale and KOL activity, key holders) before a buy, and it can run a rug check before a buy. Tokenized stocks on Solana trade via DEX, in USDC, from the same agent wallet. Liquid examples are NVDAx, AAPLx, SPYx and TSLAx. Limits cover size and market-cap range.

The trade is a Solana swap, not an order on Coinbase's book. A 0.75% swap fee (minimum $0.90 per swap), plus onchain fees. Coinbase's own pages are the source for Coinbase's schedule. The two fees are published side by side above, and this page does not turn that into a ranking.

Use both: Coinbase as your main account, Moby as a Solana side agent

Keep Coinbase, or any main app you already use, for the markets you already trade there. Give one Moby Agent a small USDC balance for Solana tokens, memecoins and tokenized stocks. That is Coinbase for Agents inside Coinbase, plus one Moby Agent for Solana. Each product has its own limits and its own funds. Moby gives each user one agent.

Fund only what you can lose in the agent wallet. Revoke the Moby key from the app if you want the agent to stop. Disconnect Coinbase for Agents from Coinbase's side if you want that agent to stop. A roundup of other ways to let an agent trade, including Voyager, Robinhood, Kraken and Alpaca, is on Coinbase for Agents alternatives.
