Solana AI Agents: How They Work and How to Use One
People searching for solana ai and solana ai agents want a map: a language model, a framework or an AI host, tools that reach Solana, and a wallet that can sign. Readers include developers picking a stack, traders asking if an agent can trade, and anyone who saw the phrase in the news.
This overview names the frameworks, the Solana MCP servers, and the wallet choices without ranking them. Trading is one use. Research, wallet tracking, payments, and community agents are others. Where a Moby Agent fits, that is labeled as Moby's option.
What is a Solana AI agent?
A Solana AI agent is software that uses a large language model to read Solana data and act onchain, such as swapping tokens, tracking wallets or paying for services. It combines a model, a framework or AI host, tools that reach Solana (often MCP servers) and a wallet with limits on what it can sign.
Those are five layers. Drop one and the agent can talk about Solana without acting on it.
| Layer | What it does | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Model | Reads the request and chooses the next step | The model inside Codex, Claude Code, or Grok |
| Framework or host | Runs the loop, memory, and tool calls | ElizaOS, Solana Agent Kit, or an MCP host with no framework |
| Tools | Reach Solana data and actions | Moby MCP, Jupiter Trading MCP, Helius MCP |
| Wallet | Holds funds and signs, inside limits | Raw keypair, Turnkey or Crossmint, or an app-managed agent wallet |
| Chain | Settles the transaction | Solana |
GetBlock's Solana agent guide splits the same stack into a model, an agent framework, and a blockchain toolkit. You can assemble those layers yourself, or skip the framework and attach Solana tools to a host you already run.
What AI agents do on Solana
A solana ai trading bot is one shape: software that watches a market and submits swaps. The wider set of ai agents on solana also researches tokens, watches wallets, pays for services, and talks to a community.
- Trading and DCA. An agent can request a swap, place a limit order, or split a buy across a schedule. The wallet still signs, and a spending cap should bound every buy.
- Token research and safety checks. Agents pull price, liquidity, holders, and risk signals before anyone spends. A read is not a trade.
- Wallet and whale tracking. An agent follows wallets you name and summarizes what they bought or sold. That job does not need a trading tool.
- Payments. An agent can pay for an API or another service when the wallet policy names the recipient and the maximum amount.
- Social and community agents. Some runtimes ship clients for Discord, X, and Telegram. ElizaOS is the project people usually mean for that job. It is described with the other frameworks below.
A swap spends real funds, and a token's price can fall to zero.
Frameworks for building Solana AI agents
A framework is code you run. The five below are the ones current Solana guides name, each from that project's own docs or repository. This is a map, not a ranking. Build steps and code belong in a dedicated guide, not this overview.
| Framework | Language | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Solana Agent Kit (SendAI) | TypeScript | Solana protocol actions from your own agent loop |
| ElizaOS | TypeScript | A full runtime with memory and social clients |
| GOAT SDK (Crossmint) | TypeScript and Python | Multi-chain agent tools |
| Coinbase AgentKit | TypeScript and Python | Giving an agent a wallet, including on Solana |
| Rig | Rust | LLM applications inside a Rust service |
Solana Agent Kit (SendAI)
Solana Agent Kit is SendAI's open-source TypeScript toolkit for connecting agents to Solana protocols. The repository README says any agent, using any model, can perform 60+ Solana actions, including token trades, launches, lending, and compressed airdrops, and it ships LangChain and Vercel AI SDK adapters. Docs: docs.sendai.fun. The quick start takes a private key, which is the raw-keypair option below.
ElizaOS
ElizaOS is an open-source TypeScript runtime with persistent memory, model routing, and social clients such as Discord, X, and Telegram. Solana support arrives through plugins. Alchemy's comparison records the rename: the project launched as ai16z and rebranded to ElizaOS in late January 2025. Code: elizaOS/eliza.
GOAT SDK (Crossmint)
GOAT SDK, from Crossmint, is a multi-chain agent toolkit with TypeScript and Python libraries. The README describes tools for payments, purchases, and other onchain actions, and you install the plugins you need. The same README marks the repository as archived and says it is no longer actively maintained. Alchemy's comparison also discusses that maintenance status. Check the repository's recent activity before you adopt it.
Coinbase AgentKit
Coinbase AgentKit is Coinbase Developer Platform's toolkit for giving an agent a wallet and onchain actions, in TypeScript and Python. For Solana the repo ships CdpSolanaWalletProvider (a Coinbase Developer Platform Solana wallet) and SolanaKeypairWalletProvider (a local keypair). The local keypair is the raw-key option below.
Rig
Rig is a Rust library for building LLM applications. GetBlock's guide lists it with ElizaOS and LangChain as a framework layer, the loop and the tool calls, and some Solana stacks use it when the rest of the service is Rust. You still bring a Solana wallet and Solana tools. If you do not want a framework at all, an AI host plus a Solana MCP server is the other route.
Solana MCP servers: agents without a framework
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems. With MCP, an application can call data sources, tools, and workflows through one interface, instead of a custom plugin for every host.
Any MCP host can then use Solana tools with no framework code. Codex, Claude Code (CLI), and Grok connect this way: add a server URL, and the host discovers the tools. A trading server can swap. A data server cannot. The Agent Marketplace lists servers Moby has written up. The phrase solana mcp means this layer.
| Server | What it gives an agent | Can it trade? |
|---|---|---|
| Moby MCP | Token data, whale, KOL, and smart-money flows, safety reads, and trading inside server-side caps | Yes |
| Jupiter Trading MCP | Jupiter swap, limit-order, recurring-buy, and lending tools | Yes |
| Helius MCP | Raw Solana data, wallet history, and parsed transactions. Moby's listing is read-only | No |
| Birdeye MCP | Market data: prices, candles, and trending lists | No |
| CoinGecko MCP | Market data: prices, categories, trending coins, and DEX pools | No |
| Solana developer MCP | Solana docs, doc search, and help for programs | No |
Moby MCP can trade Solana inside caps the Moby app checks on the server. The agent uses an API key from the app. It does not receive a private key, and it has no withdraw, transfer, or send tool. Host setup for that key is on the Codex, Claude Code, and Grok pages linked above.
Jupiter's Trading MCP is a hosted server. The docs describe swap quotes and execution, limit orders, recurring buys, lending, and position reads, and they say the server executes operations. An API key is optional and only raises the rate limit. Those tools follow Jupiter's own wallet rules. They are not the same caps as a Moby Agent.
Helius's docs cover querying, parsed transactions, and wallet history, plus transaction sending, webhooks, and streaming. Moby's Helius MCP listing is read-only, so that copy does not trade. Birdeye MCP and CoinGecko MCP are market data, and Moby's listings mark both as never trading. The Solana developer MCP serves Solana docs, search, and a program autofixer. The site lists five tools and no API key. It does not hold a wallet.
Wallets and keys for AI agents
Every action that moves value ends at a signer. The framework or the MCP server proposes the transaction. The wallet decides whether it gets signed. Three patterns differ in who holds the key and who can say no.
Raw keypair
The simplest setup is a Solana keypair in an environment file. Solana Agent Kit's quick start and Coinbase's SolanaKeypairWalletProvider both work this way. Anyone who can read the file can sign anything that key can sign. Keep it off chat logs, use a dedicated key, and keep the balance small.
Policy-controlled wallet infrastructure
Turnkey and Crossmint provide wallet infrastructure so the agent does not see the private key. Turnkey holds keys in hardware-isolated enclaves and controls who can sign, when, and how. The Helius secure-agent guide shows Turnkey's scoped API key and policies for actions, programs, and rate. Crossmint's docs describe signer types, including multi-approval. A scoped key with an empty policy is close to a raw key.
App-managed agent wallet
In an app-managed wallet, the app holds the key and checks limits on its own server before anything is signed. The agent calls trade tools with an API key and never sees a private key. Moby Agents work this way. Each person has one agent, and that agent has its own wallet, separate from the main wallet in the Moby app. You fund it with USDC. Funding it does not add a withdraw tool.
Use a raw keypair only for an experiment you can afford to lose. Use a policy-controlled signer when you are building the agent. Use an app-managed wallet when you want the caps enforced for you.
How to keep a Solana AI agent safe
The wallet should not follow the model without a rule in front of the signature. This checklist draws on the Helius and Turnkey guide and on OWASP's prompt-injection note.
- Scoped keys. Give the agent a key for a short list of actions. Do not put a primary wallet seed in the agent.
- Spending caps. Cap the size of a buy and the amount that can be spent in a day.
- Allowlists. Name the programs the agent may call. A swap program is not permission to call every program.
- Simulation before signing. Where the stack can simulate the transaction, read which accounts it would touch before the key signs.
- Human approval for a new kind of action. A first swap to a new mint, a new program, or a higher cap should wait for you.
- Logging. Keep the instruction, the tool call, and the signature.
- A kill switch. Revoke the key or disable the policy without asking the agent to cooperate.
Prompt injection is the other half. OWASP LLM01 describes input that changes the model's behavior in a way you did not intend. On Solana that input is often a token name, a token description, or a website the agent was told to read. Treat it as data. Do not let it raise a cap, change a recipient, or approve its own trade.
A rug check looks at the mint. It does not stop a poisoned instruction. Size the trade before you approve it. Never paste a private key or a seed phrase into a chat.
Trading with a Solana AI agent: the Moby option
Moby is one way to trade with a Solana AI agent. Jupiter's MCP, a framework plus your own wallet, and an app-managed wallet are different shapes. This section is only the Moby shape. The broader pattern is agentic trading.
You get one agent, with its own wallet, separate from the main wallet in the Moby app. You fund that wallet with USDC. The agent trades Solana tokens, including tokenized stocks such as AAPLx, NVDAx and SPYx, and it can buy pump.fun coins before and after graduation. Agent trading on Base, BNB Chain and Robinhood Chain is coming soon. The Moby app itself trades tokens on Solana, Base, BNB Chain and Robinhood Chain.
You set your agent's limits on max per trade, daily buy volume and market-cap range from the Moby app, and Moby checks them server-side on every buy your agent makes.
You choose how much the agent may do on its own. Three approval modes cover the usual cases: trade only when told, propose and wait for approval, or trade alone within saved rules. The app's limits still apply in every mode. A saved rule cannot raise them.
There is no withdraw, transfer, or send tool. A sell leaves the USDC in the same agent wallet. Turning the agent off is a revoke in the Moby app: Agent tab, Connect.
Moby Starter Strategies are ready-made plans the agent can read and run inside those limits. Large Cap Allocator, Smart Money Confirmed, Early Launch Hunter, and others are on that list. You can also Set up a Moby Agent and connect Codex, Claude Code (CLI), or Grok without a starter strategy. You still set the caps first.
Try it with a Moby Agent
You can try this without installing a framework. The Moby path is five steps.
- Download Moby and open the Agent tab.
- Set max per trade, daily buy volume and market-cap range.
- Create a key and connect Codex, Claude Code, or Grok.
- Fund the agent wallet with USDC.
- Ask: "What are smart-money wallets buying on Solana today? Propose one trade and wait for my approval."
A 0.75% swap fee (minimum $0.90 per swap), plus onchain fees.
10% of the Moby fee back in $MOBY on every swap, 20% after your first swap, up to 30% as you climb tiers.
The first prompt asks for a proposal, not a fill. Read the token, the size, and the cap before you approve. Nothing on this page promises a result.
FAQ
