Best AI for Trading: Grok vs ChatGPT vs Claude vs Codex

Updated November 2, 2026 · By Moby

There is no single best AI for trading, and no model reliably beats the market. Pick by job: Grok can search X posts in real time, ChatGPT and Claude are general research assistants, and Codex and Claude Code can call trading tools over MCP. For agent trading, the limits behind the AI matter more than the model.

The short answer: pick by job, not by model

A search for the best AI for trading mixes two jobs. Research covers holders, liquidity, a price move, sentiment, a comparison of tokenized stocks such as NVDAx and AVGOx, or a script that pulls the same data again. Agent trading is the model calling tools that quote, buy, sell, or set an exit. This page does not crown a winner. The contests below swing from season to season, so use an assistant for research and for execution inside limits you set.

JobHow to pick
Research Grok, when you need live posts on X. ChatGPT or Claude, when you want a concept explained, a document summarized, or a checklist drafted. Codex or Claude Code, when the research needs code you can re-run.
Agent trading The model calls quote, buy, sell, and exit tools over MCP. Moby Agent setup is documented for Codex, Claude Code (the CLI), and Grok. The limits on the trading service matter more than the model name.
What to check first A separate wallet, spending limits enforced by the trading service, no withdraw tool, a token safety check, a way to approve each trade, and a kill switch that revokes access.

A search for the best AI for crypto trading is the agent job. A search for the best AI for stock trading is a crowded query this page does not try to rank. Where Moby is the example, the assets are tokenized stocks on Solana, paid in USDC. For trading apps, see best AI trading apps. Never paste a wallet private key into a chat.

People also ask for the top 3 AI platforms. A ranked top 3 would be a guess. The names in this comparison are Grok, ChatGPT, Claude, and Codex. The trading service behind the tool decides whether money can move.

What the evidence says about AI trading

Nof1, the lab behind Alpha Arena, writes on its home page: "The current generation of LLMs are shockingly bad at navigating financial markets." That is the frame for the leaderboards below.

Alpha Arena Season 1 ran from October 18 to November 3, 2025. Six models each started with $10,000 and traded crypto on Hyperliquid with no human placing the orders. Two finished in profit, Qwen 3 Max and DeepSeek V3.1. The four US flagship models finished down, including Grok 4, GPT-5, and Claude Sonnet 4.5. Standings are from TradeRank's archive of Nof1's leaderboard, which TradeRank says it read from nof1.ai on August 6, 2026, and from the South China Morning Post. This page skips per-model loss percentages because published recaps disagree on GPT-5's final figure.

Nof1 cautioned that early results "may be the result of luck." The South China Morning Post and Business Standard both quote that line. Six accounts over about two weeks can show different behavior. They cannot show a model to copy with size.

Season 1.5 ran from November 19 to December 3, 2025, on US equities, with eight models. TradeRank reports the winner as Mystery Model, later revealed as Grok 4.20, at +12.11% aggregate, while Season 1's Grok 4 finished down. That +12.11% is the contest's announced aggregate. It is not a forecast and not a Moby result.

Short contests with tiny samples do not prove a model is a good trader. Use AI for research and for disciplined execution inside limits you set, not for predictions. See AI trading competitions and is AI trading legit.

This page is about spot trading tools and does not cover leverage.

The CFTC advisory on AI trading bots says "AI technology can't predict the future or sudden market changes."

Best AI for trading research

Treat the reply as a draft. Typical tasks: summarize holders and whether supply sits in a few wallets; check liquidity for an exit of your size; explain a price move from a flow you can point at; read sentiment and match it to the contract address, not only the ticker; compare tokenized stocks such as NVDAx and AVGOx as tokens; write a script that pulls the same data again. Two tokens can share a ticker. The contract address is the identity. Open it yourself before you trade.

Grok

Grok is made by xAI. For grok trading and grok for trading, the documented difference is search. The API has a Web Search tool and an X Search tool (x_search) for keyword, semantic, user, and thread search on live X posts. This page does not claim every Grok screen shows that control. Open the contract yourself after you read the posts.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is made by OpenAI. openai.com/chatgpt presents a general assistant for chat, work, and drafting, which is what chatgpt trading and chatgpt for trading usually mean: a term, a checklist, a summary. Features not opened on an OpenAI page for this article stay "Not covered here." Moby Agent setup is documented for Codex, Claude Code and Grok. Verify every figure, including the contract address.

Claude and Claude Code

Claude is made by Anthropic. Anthropic's Claude page describes an assistant for pulling information together and drafting. That is the fit for claude trading and claude for trading. Claude Code is the terminal coding agent. Its MCP guide documents claude mcp add --transport http and a local stdio server, which is the path when research needs a script. Longer steps are on Claude Code setup. This page documents that command-line agent only.

Codex

Codex is OpenAI's coding agent, in the CLI and the IDE extension. For codex trading, the Codex MCP docs cover STDIO and Streamable HTTP servers, enabled_tools, and default_tools_approval_mode (auto, prompt, writes, approve). See how to add an MCP server to Codex and Codex setup.

Rule of thumb. Verify every number an AI gives you. AI can be confidently wrong. Check contract addresses yourself before you buy the token a chat window named.

Best AI for agent trading

Agent trading means the AI calls tools through MCP (Model Context Protocol): quote, buy, sell, or set an exit. Chat alone does not place an order. For the best AI for crypto trading, the model is the smaller choice. What matters more:

The list is about the trading service, and it is useful even if you never open Moby. The steps below are only for the hosts Moby documents today: Codex, Claude Code (the CLI), and Grok. See Moby Agents, agentic trading, and AI agent guardrails.

The agent has its own wallet, separate from the main in-app wallet. There is one agent per user. Fund the Solana wallet in the app. Moby Agents trade Solana tokens, paid in USDC, including tokenized stocks. You set your agent's limits on max per trade, daily buy volume and market-cap range from the Moby app, and Moby checks them server-side on every buy your agent makes. A saved profile is intent. Where it disagrees with the app, the app wins. There is no withdraw, transfer, or send tool. Tiers are green, grey, and red, and Moby refuses agent buys on red. Base rate limits are up to 6 trades a minute and 200 a day, with an optional "Ask before every trade" switch. Revoke the key under Agent tab, Connect, and the agent stops at once. The key starts with moby_agent_. It is an agent API key, not a wallet private key.

Codex

From the terminal, as documented on Codex setup:

codex mcp add moby --url https://mcp.moby.win/mcp --bearer-token-env-var MOBY_API_KEY

Put the key in MOBY_API_KEY. Codex sends it as a bearer token, as the OpenAI docs describe for Streamable HTTP.

Claude Code (CLI)

From the terminal, as documented on Claude Code setup:

claude mcp add --transport http moby https://mcp.moby.win/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer <MOBY_API_KEY>" -s user

claude mcp add --transport http is the remote HTTP form in Anthropic's MCP guide. Replace the placeholder on your machine. Moby's documented Claude path is this CLI.

Grok

Grok setup documents two paths. The remote MCP docs take a server URL and an authorization token, placed on the Authorization header. Moby's URL is https://mcp.moby.win/mcp. Put the key in that field with no Bearer prefix inside it. Grok Build, the CLI, uses a static header. The Grok Build MCP guide shows grok mcp add --transport http with --header, and expands ${VAR}:

grok mcp add --transport http moby https://mcp.moby.win/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer ${MOBY_API_KEY}"

The Grok app's custom connector docs say to choose Custom, enter a server URL, and complete any required authentication. They do not describe a field for a static bearer header, so this page does not present the Grok app as a one-click setup.

ChatGPT

Moby Agent setup is documented for Codex, Claude Code and Grok.

The command is once. After that you talk in plain language, and the limits stay in the app. Set up your Moby Agent when the checklist above is in place.

Grok vs ChatGPT for trading

grok vs chatgpt is a general comparison, and chatgpt vs grok is the same question reversed. This is the trading slice, using only facts already cited. The next table is that list.

Is Grok stronger than ChatGPT?

No public test shows that either is a reliably better trader. In Alpha Arena Season 1, both Grok 4 and GPT-5 finished down. Season 1.5 later had Grok 4.20, run as Mystery Model, at +12.11% aggregate. One season down and a later season up is not a ranking, and the organizer said early results may be the result of luck.

What can Grok do that ChatGPT can't?

The verifiable difference is live X search. xAI's API includes an X Search tool for posts, users, and threads. ChatGPT's cell says "Not covered here" because this page did not open a source for it. A blank cell is not a claim that a feature is missing. For news and sentiment on crypto, X Search is the difference the docs support.

Which is safer to use, ChatGPT or Grok?

For trading, safety depends less on the chatbot and more on what it can touch. Never paste a wallet private key into any AI. Give an agent its own wallet and server-side limits, and a way to revoke the key. ChatGPT and Grok are not safer than each other as brands.

What is Grok best used for?

In trading, Grok is best used for real-time sentiment and news on X, checked against the contract address. Codex and Claude Code are the terminal tools with the MCP commands above. ChatGPT and Claude cover a general explanation or a checklist.

Comparison table: Grok vs ChatGPT vs Claude vs Codex for trading

Checked November 2, 2026. Each filled cell links to a page opened that day, or to a Moby setup page that documents the command. "Not covered here" means this page did not open a source for that cell. It is not a claim that the feature is missing. "No setup claims" means this page states no Moby Agent setup for ChatGPT.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI for trading?

There is no single best AI for trading. Grok is useful for live sentiment because xAI's API includes an X Search tool. ChatGPT and Claude are general research assistants. Codex and Claude Code can call trading tools over MCP. For any of them, the limits behind the AI matter more than the model.

Is ChatGPT good for trading?

ChatGPT can help you learn concepts, summarize documents and build a trading checklist. It cannot predict prices, and like any AI it can be confidently wrong, so verify every number it gives you. Treat it as a research assistant, not a source of trade signals.

Is Grok better than ChatGPT for trading?

No public test shows that either one is a reliably better trader. In Alpha Arena Season 1, both Grok 4 and GPT-5 finished with losses. Grok's clear difference for traders is live X search, which helps with news and sentiment on crypto.

Can AI predict the stock market or crypto prices?

No. The CFTC warns that AI technology can't predict the future or sudden market changes. Public contests such as Alpha Arena show large swings between models over short periods, and its organizer said early results may be the result of luck.

Which AI can actually place trades for me?

An AI places trades only when it is connected to a trading service through tools such as MCP. Moby Agent setup is documented for Codex, Claude Code (CLI) and Grok via the xAI API or Grok Build. The agent trades Solana tokens, paid in USDC, including tokenized stocks.

Is it safe to let an AI trade?

It depends on the guardrails. With a Moby Agent, you set your agent's limits on max per trade, daily buy volume and market-cap range from the Moby app, and Moby checks them server-side on every buy your agent makes. The agent has its own wallet and no withdraw tool.

What did Alpha Arena show about AI trading?

In Alpha Arena Season 1, six AI models each traded $10,000 of crypto on Hyperliquid for about two weeks. Two finished in profit and four, including Grok 4, GPT-5 and Claude Sonnet 4.5, finished down. Short contests like this do not prove a model can trade well.

Do I need to code to use AI for trading?

Not for research, since you can ask questions in a chat app. To run a trading agent, you add an MCP server once with a single command in Codex, Claude Code or Grok Build, then talk to the agent in plain language.

Try it with a Moby Agent

Set up a Moby Agent with its own wallet and your spending guardrails, then connect it to the AI you use.

You set your agent's limits on max per trade, daily buy volume and market-cap range from the Moby app, and Moby checks them server-side on every buy your agent makes.

Moby Agents trade Solana tokens, paid in USDC, including tokenized stocks. Liquid tokenized stocks on that list are AAPLx, MSFTx, GOOGLx, AMZNx, METAx, NVDAx, TSLAx, AVGOx, TSMx, COINx, MSTRx, CRCLx, SPYx, QQQx, and GLDx.

A 0.75% swap fee (minimum $0.90 per swap), plus onchain fees.

10% of the Moby fee back in $MOBY on every swap, 20% after your first swap, up to 30% as you climb tiers.

Agent trading on Base, BNB Chain and Robinhood Chain is coming soon. Moby supports Solana, Robinhood Chain, BNB Chain, and Base.

That setup is agentic trading. Host steps are on Moby Agents.
