Tokenized Gold on Solana: What It Is and How to Buy It
Buy tokenized gold on Solana in Moby, including GLDx, Oro GOLD and Matrixdock XAUm.
Tokenized gold is a crypto token whose value follows the price of gold, either because it is backed by vaulted gold or because it tracks a gold fund. On Solana, you can buy tokenized gold in the Moby app, including GLDx, Oro GOLD and Matrixdock XAUm, from a self-custody wallet.
Download Moby on iOS or Android, or open the web app.
What is tokenized gold?
Tokenized gold is a crypto token linked to gold. Chainlink's explainer defines the physically backed version as physical gold bullion with ownership rights stored as a digital token on a blockchain. A second model tracks a gold fund instead of a bar. Both trade on Solana as tokens.
You can buy a fraction of one token, and trading does not stop when a metals desk closes. You pay that token's market price, which follows gold more or less closely.
Physically backed means the issuer ties each token to vaulted gold. Matrixdock's Solana launch post says one XAUm token represents 1 troy ounce of 99.99% gold that meets LBMA standards. ORO's product overview says one GOLD token represents one troy ounce of vaulted gold.
A fund tracker is indirect. Backed's Gold xStock page says GLDx tracks the price of SPDR Gold Shares (GLD). GLD is an ETF backed by gold bullion, so GLDx follows that fund's price. It is not a claim on a specific bar.
PAXG and XAUT are the best-known gold tokens in the wider market. This page does not say Moby lists them.
Tokenized gold on Solana: GLDx vs XAUm vs ORO GOLD
This page covers three Solana tokens in the Moby app: GLDx, Matrixdock XAUm and ORO's GOLD token. One tracks a fund. Two are tied to vaulted metal.
Moby does not issue these tokens. Redemption, where an issuer offers it, sits with the issuer, not in the Moby app. The table uses issuer documents only.
| Token | Issuer | Structure | One token | Redemption (issuer docs) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GLDx (Gold xStock) | Backed Assets (JE) Limited (xStocks) | Tracker certificate, SPL and ERC-20 | Tracks the price of SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) | Primary issuance and redemption with the issuer, KYC required | Backed, final terms |
| XAUm | Matrixdock (Matrixport Group) | Physically backed, live on Solana since 2026-02-09 | 1 troy ounce of 99.99% LBMA gold | Physical redemption in Singapore and Hong Kong, from 1 kg bars | Solana.com, Matrixdock announcement |
| GOLD | ORO | Physically backed SPL token | 1 troy ounce of vaulted gold | KYC/KYB wallets; USDC redemption, vault transfer, physical delivery or pickup in the UAE | ORO redemption, overview |
GLDx (Gold xStock)
Backed's product page, updated 2026-09-24, says GLDx tracks the price of SPDR Gold Shares. It lists a management fee of 0.40% per year and says that figure reflects the ongoing costs charged by the manager of the underlying fund. GLDx is a tracker certificate from Backed Assets (JE) Limited, issued as a Solana SPL token and an ERC-20 token, in the xStocks family of tokenized stocks on Solana. See how to trade tokenized stocks. A Moby buy is a swap of the token, not a redemption.
Matrixdock XAUm
On 2026-02-09 Matrixdock, part of Matrixport Group, announced XAUm on Solana, and its docs say it is live there. The Solana.com launch post says each token is 1 troy ounce of 99.99% LBMA gold, from an LBMA supply chain, with bi-annual audits by Bureau Veritas. Physical redemption is in Singapore and Hong Kong, from 1 kg bars. Matrixdock's redemption page puts that bar at 32.148 XAUm and requires issuer KYC. In Moby you buy the token.
ORO GOLD
ORO's GOLD token is a Solana SPL token. ORO's product overview and legal notes say one token represents one troy ounce of vaulted gold. Redemption is limited to KYC and KYB wallets. The issuer documents USDC redemption, a vault transfer, physical delivery, and in-person pickup in the UAE. ORO's audits page says RSM attests reserves quarterly, and that Cantina and Adevar Labs audited the contracts. Those checks are the issuer's. ORO's docs also describe staking on ORO's own platform. Moby does not offer yield on this token.
GLDx vs GLDX: which one is this?
GLDx in Moby is the Gold xStock token on Solana, issued by Backed Assets (JE) Limited. GLDX is also the ticker of the Global X Gold Producers Index ETF on the TSX, and of the USCF Gold Strategy Plus Income Fund ETF. gldx.com is a separate EU gold-token project on a waitlist, not this token. Moby does not list those ETFs or that project. Match the contract on Backed's product page before you buy.
How to buy tokenized gold on Solana in Moby
These steps buy the Solana token in a self-custody wallet. The swap is not a redemption order to the issuer. The Moby app also trades tokens on Solana, Robinhood Chain, BNB Chain and Base. This how-to is for tokenized gold on Solana, so match the contract when a ticker looks familiar.
- Download Moby on iOS or Android, or open the web app at app.moby.win.
- Create your self-custody wallet (Privy) in the app.
- Deposit SOL or USDC. No minimum. Deposit any amount of SOL, USDC or $MOBY to start trading.
- Search GLDx, XAUm or GOLD by name or contract address. Check the contract address against the issuer's docs.
- Buy, and set a limit order, take profit, stop loss or DCA if you want.
After the buy, the token sits in the wallet you control, and you can export your key from the app.
A 0.75% swap fee (minimum $0.90 per swap), plus onchain fees. You get 10% of the Moby fee back in $MOBY on every swap, 20% after your first swap, up to 30% as you climb tiers.
Backed's product page lists a separate issuance and redemption fee of up to 0.50% with the issuer. A Moby swap uses the fee above, plus onchain fees.
Why buy tokenized gold in Moby
The Moby homepage puts gold in the same app as memecoins, majors and tokenized stocks.
- Gold sits next to memecoins, majors and tokenized stocks in one app, on Solana.
- The wallet is self-custody, powered by Privy, a Stripe company. You can import a wallet or create one, and export your key anytime.
- Limit orders, take profit, stop loss and DCA are the auto orders the homepage lists on that same set of markets.
- Whale Watch is the app's live feed of tracked-wallet trades.
You still choose the token and the size.
Can my AI agent trade tokenized gold?
Your agent can trade Solana tokens, including tokenized gold. It is paid in USDC through Moby MCP from Codex, Claude Code (CLI) or Grok. Agent trading on Base, BNB Chain and Robinhood Chain is coming soon.
You set your agent's limits on max per trade, daily buy volume and market-cap range from the Moby app, and Moby checks them server-side on every buy your agent makes.
One agent per user. That agent has its own wallet, separate from your main in-app wallet. Host setup is on the AI trading agent page. The wider model is agentic trading.
Tokenized gold risks
You hold a token, you rely on an issuer and a vault, and the price can fall. A gold token is not metal in your hand.
- Issuer and custody. You rely on the issuer and the vault. CertiK's proof-of-reserves note says the chain can show the token, and it cannot by itself show that the gold is in the vault.
- Tracker versus backed. GLDx follows the price of a gold ETF, so the exposure is indirect. XAUm and ORO's GOLD token are each tied to vaulted gold, per their issuers.
- Price versus spot. The onchain price can differ from spot gold, including when gold markets are closed. GridFi's note on GLDx says the onchain price is set by onchain markets and is not automatically the GLD price.
- Liquidity. It varies by token. A thin market moves the price you actually receive on the swap.
- Redemption. Where an issuer offers it, redemption usually needs that issuer's KYC and a minimum size. Moby does not redeem these tokens for metal or for cash.
- Smart contracts. An audit can catch bugs in the contract. It does not prove the vault balance.
Tokenized gold can lose value, and you rely on the token's issuer and custodian. Only trade what you can afford to lose. Nothing on this page is investment advice.
